Post transakční modifikace proteinů pomocí malého ubiquitin podobného peptidu (SUMO) hraje klíčovou úlohu při miotické a mitotické rekombinaci. SUMO ilace může významně ovlivnit biochemické aktivity modifikovaných proteinů, proteinproteinové interakce a proteinovou lokalizaci.
