Elemental analysis of biological samples is the important branch of analytical chemistry at present time. Methods of atomic spectrometry are commonly used for determination of toxic or essential elements. Technique of generation of volatile compounds, especially volatile hydrides and cold vapours, is routinely used for some elements.
This project will deal with the application of volatile compound generation technique together with inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry. This technique will be applied for determination of analytes for which this technique is not commonly applied. Determination of iodine with in-situ generation and emission spectrometry or determination of some species of sulfur in biological samples and beverages are some examples of application of this technique. UV photodigestion or low-temperature oxygen-plasma ashing will be studied and applied for sample preparation. The goal of the project is to develop methodology for determination of these elements and compounds, what will extend the application of optical emission spectrometry for determination of elements that are not commonly determined by this technique. Speciation of some elements will also be possible.
