The goal of this project is to introduce into Czech political science the problematic of social movements as political actors. Social movements play an important role in the political process of democratic countries. However, the research of social movements in Czech political science is underdeveloped. The main goal of the project is to address this gap and provide Czech political science with a book that (1) will reflect on the latest developments in the theory of social movements, (2) will emphasize the political dimension of social movements’ activities, and (3) will introduce social movements as a new research agenda in Czech political science. Theoretical analysis will be organically interlinked with the study of concrete examples of social movements abroad and in the post-1989 Czech Republic. As a result, the project will contribute with both theoretical concepts for the general study of social movements and with concrete knowledge of social movements in the Czech Republic.
