The aim of the project "Laboratory of Natural Language Processing" at Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University, is to obtain both theoretical and applied research results in the fields of speech synthesis and recognition (Czech), lexical databases, knowledge representation and semantic representation of natural language expressions as well as in using the methods of machine learning for disambiguation of corpus data. The essential educational purpose of the project is to take advantage of the mentioned research and train a number of postgraduate and undergraduate students in a newly developing discipline now called "language engineering".
