The proposed project aims to describe the so far overlooked phenomenon in Czech, the truncation of the present-tense forms of the Old Czech verb “býti” (“to be”), i.e. 2nd-person singular “s” and 3rd-person sg. “j”. The project strives to analyze the frequency of the investigated forms in selected Old Czech texts, their word-ordering, their morphosyntactic and phonological features in comparison with their non-truncated counterparts, 2nd-person singular “(j)si” and 3rd-person singular “je(st)”.
