Information is essential in healthcare for patient empowerment and engagement, enabling informed decision-making and reducing anxiety. However, effective communication can be hindered by time constraints for medical professionals and the overwhelming nature of medical information for patients. The EMPOWER project aims to bridge this gap with an AI-assisted eHealth platform that offers personalized, clear, and accessible medical information. Using recommender systems, large language models, and intelligent interfaces, the platform will support patients in understanding their health and treatment options at their own pace. The effectiveness of the EMPOWER assistant will be evaluated through an exploratory study and a randomized controlled trial, measuring patient empowerment and engagement using various standardized tools. The project hypothesizes that patients using the full AI-assisted platform will feel more empowered than those using a basic version, demonstrating the potential of AI to enhance patient care.
