Citation
Description MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs 18-25 nucleotides long that post-transcriptionaly regulate gene expression. They play an important role in major cell processes including apoptosis, diferentiation or carcinogenesis. Changes in expression profiles of miRNAs have been observed in solid cancers and mechanistic studies have proved that these molecules can function as both, tumor suppressors or oncogenes. These observations confirmed that miRNAs can be used not only as new diagnostic biomarkers, but also as new therapeutic targets.
