Description | The paper deals with the question about the possibility of using participatory research methods in fields of study primarily focused on regional development. The phrase "regional development" is already included scale level of the region that defies individually oriented participatory techniques. At the same time there is present the concept of development, which implies an asymmetrical relationship between those who assist and those who are being helped. The contribution neglects question of scale and further discussion latent asymmetry of "help" or "development". It distinguishes „development“ according to motivation. The paper thematizes the question of why we want to help, why we want to "do development". Consequently, it distinguishes between two alternative lines of motivation: selfish and altruistic. Altruistic motivation is associated with "what is good for society", the belief in aggregately structural solutions and the concept of "development". Selfish motivation is associated with the motivation of "what I want" belief in tiny, local but repetitive activities and the concept of "care". The contribution occurs seemingly paradoxical statement that the symmetric partnership relationship can be achieved only with the development of self-motivation satisfaction. |
