Description Gene – environment interactions play important role in the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders. Epigenetic mechanisms could be seen as link between the environment and the genome also in the pathogenesis of psychiatric diseases. Recent studies have shown that epigenetic effects play an important role in regulating of cell differentiation, cognition, learning, memory, neuronal plasticity and neurotransmissions. New methods in molecular biology (DNA chip, next generation sequencing) allow new steps towards to understanding the role of epigenetic factors in pathophysiology of mental diseases. These methods detected high level of cellular RNA of unknown origin that has been named “non-coding RNA” and as the source of this ncRNA was revealed “nonsense DNA”. Extensive research is now focused on the research of influence of these ncRNA in cell regulations and physiology.
