Description | Ancient human dental calculus is due to his fragility and easy loss relatively rare. But it is important bio-archaeological material. During life of an individual the dental calculus is formed from dental plaque where various remains can be trapped. So there is a possibility of finding and examining remains such as fragments of cereals, vegetable fibers, phytolithes, pollens, seeds, animal hairs, parasites (including insects) etc. Calcified bacteria can be found, too. These fragments could provide information about diet, oral flora, circumstances in which they lived or about habits of our ancestors. The aim of the presentation was to summarize an importance of ancient human dental calculus and to summarize various opportunities of analysis. |
