Description Typical methods for characterization and determination of size and morfology of nanoparticles are SEM, TEM, STM, AFM or SIMS. Alternatively nanoparticles can be characterized using a common nebulizer-equipped ICP MS. To detect and characterize the nanoparticles, we test a new technique for sample introduction into plasma, substrate-assisted laser desorption (SALD). A standard solution of commercial gold nanoparticles was deposited on poly(ethylene terephthalate) glycol (PETG) sample plate and desorbed with 213-nm laser. The initial results are presented and feasibility of the technique for nanoparticle characterization is discussed.
