| Description | Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycaemia caused either by lowered pancreatic production of insulin or peripheral tissue resistance to its effects. In addition to standard therapeutic strategies such as diet, administration of oral antidiabetic agents or insulin, there are hundreds of medicinal herbs potentially applicable for adjuvant treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The aim of this work is to provide a literature survey of pharmacological effects of herbal drugs contained in tea blends for diabetics, summary of their pharmacologically active substances and evidence of their effects compared with standard pharmacotherapy based on recent research findings. |
