| Description | The paper is dedicated to the robot, the man-machine figure, the central character of the modernist myth of progress, which is perhaps the last big narrative that has survived postmodern scepticism. From this perspective, Čapek's robots in the play R.U.R. and their followers in the field of robotic art will be approached. Thesis: Although robot does not have the same meaning as it had at the beginning of the 20th century, its function is still the same. Robot in the field of art works as a figure of conformism, and as a figure of effects of bio-power on human body. The robot is the disciplined body, which capacities are optimized to increase its usefulness, obedience and integration into the economic productivity system. In the era of information and communication technologies, the man-machine unite is even more powerful tool of control, than the author of the Robot was able even imagine. |
