Description | The paper deals with two Latin translations of Phaenomena – one by M. T. Cicero and the other by Germanicus Iulius Caesar. Because of the distance of almost one century and different attitudes of the translators, the final texts sometimes differ from each other and also from the source text. The variances lie not only in marginal details, but in some cases also the whole nature of the text is changed. The difference between Cicero's and Germanicus` translations are demonstrated on the descriptions of the constellations from the myth of Perseus. |
