Description Pentecost was in the Czech Lands in the pre-industrial rural environment connected with walking rituals; several researches tried to explain their development. In Central Moravia (Haná region) the connection with initiation ceremonies of young people is primary; they are connected with horse pasture and riding competitions the winner of which was celebrated as a "king". The custome fullfilled a social integrating role in the village and among young men. The period of the Czecho-Slavonic Ethnographic Exhibition in 1895 brought the revival of the custom; phenomena of the traditional culture of the pre-industrial village got new functions in the frame of shaping the national identity.
