Description | This paper documents how oppositional social identities are constructed in the semi-public discourse space constituted by reader comments in internet news sites. Based on data from British newspapers – reader comments on articles dealing with the recent immigration crisis, the paper analyses the interplay between referential and predicational strategies that frequently construct, by means of delegitimizing the other, the mutually oppositional identities of the ingroup and the outgroup. |
