Description | This study focuses on the beginnings of Brno film culture until 1912, especially on the period of time up to 1904, that seems to be defined by more general inclination of early travelling cinematographers to the systematic use of pubs or, broadly, eating places for the purposes of film screenings. After 1904, this modus of staging did not entirely subside and marked a significant return in the late 1900s as a suburban alternative to the emerging permanent cinema theatres and projections in the town squares; however, some new patterns of travelling film screenings began to prevail, namely in shacks and tents. This study puts these observations within the context of contemporary spatial transformations of the city, operation of catering and hospitality establishments and other technical attractions. |
