Description This paper deals with frequently discussed topic of success rate of students in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), especially at the faculties hat are not primarily focused on this field. The aim of our contribution is to examine factors influencing success in these subjects; we focused mainly on the influence of gender, work at study, type of secondary school and satisfaction with university selection. The data for the study was obtained through a questionnaire survey of randomly selected students of the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Masaryk University in Brno. The survey aimed at students of the 2nd year of the bachelor's study enrolled in the last of a series of 4 related subjects with mathematical and statistical orientation. Students’ attitude to the subject as well as the level of their knowledge were evaluated. Parametric and nonparametric statistical methods were used to evaluate collected data.
