Description | Causal pharmacotherapy of cognitive impairment in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients is not available yet. Consequently, the alternative therapeutic options are being investigated. Regular aerobic physical activity shows good efficiency results. The aim of this study is to verify the effect of dance-movement intervention on the cognitive functions of healthy seniors and patients with Mild cognitive impairment due to AD (MCI). The research group currently consists of 62 seniors (51.5-80.7 years old, m = 67.66, sd = 3.1), including 17 (27.4%) males and 45 (72.6%) females, of which 42 (67.7%) are healthy subjects and 20 (32.3%) patients with MCI. Group of 32 (51.6%) subjects underwent a six-month intensive dance-movement program. The preliminary results of the comparative analyzes show the effect of intervention in executive functions. The intervention group showed significantly better post-tests results of the Hanoi Tower (4 discs, time; p = 0.018) and Five-point test (p = 0.020). Dance-movement intervention could be an effective therapeutic or augmentative option. More detailed analysis and results will be available after the end of the intervention for the last group of participants at the end of 2018. |
