Description | Transcriptional factor STAT3 and the chemokine CCL2, which increase in spinal ganglion (SG) neurons after peripheral nerve damage, play an important role in successful regeneration of the peripheral nervous system. It has been shown that in cancer cells and in a model of overexpression of CCL2 in neurons not damaged by SG, this chemokine leads to activation and nuclear translocation of STAT3. However, after sciatic nerve transection in CCL2 - / - mice, STAT3 phosphorylation occurs in SG neurons despite the absence of CCL2. From these results, it can be concluded that activated STAT3 is likely to affect CCL2 expression and at the same time to lead to its activation. |
