Description | This book examines the changing structure of the Czech parliament since 1920 in terms of its members’ professions. The first part is focused on the interwar period – years when the Czech lands were a very heterogeneous region. The second part describes the nearly three decades since 1990, when free competition between political parties was reintroduced. The third part analyses in greater detail the influence of MPs’ biographical histories on their activities and on democratic representation itself. Theoretically, the book is based on Hannah Pitkin’s concept of representation. The main sources of data are personal questionnaires filled by the MPs themselves, attendance lists and a freely-accessible database of the Czech Office for Statistics with detailed information about MPs. |
