Description | The contribution deals with the still insufficiently researched theoretical issue of the existence of region as a social construct (social fact), its emergence and extinction as well as its institutionalization and deinstitutionalization. Based on the theory of social constructionism the difference between the existence of region (and boundary) as a social construct and a “mere” belief about (non-)existence of region (and boundary) is discussed. The case of the Czech lands demonstrates that particularly the abolition of the administrative status represents a significant deinstitutionalization of region (and boundary) that may persuade some people to believe in the non-existence of the given region (boundary). The contribution thus discusses a certain "administrative status captivity". |
