Description Gold particles (dimensions are ranging from 1 to several hundreds of nm) called nano-gold (NG) interact with DNA, nucleotides, peptides, proteins, etc. They are applied for tissue coloring, cellular detection, drug-delivery, detection and treatment of cancer, etc. In this work the use of NG in mass spectrometry of peptides was studied. It was found that (i) NG can be used as a matrix for peptide ionization, (ii) Au-n(+) clusters formed can be in the same time used as internal calibrants, and (iii) NG can also be used for peptide micropxtraction and consequent MALDI analysis.
