Description Thanks to clinical trials, we find out how effective a drug is in treating a given disease. However, as diseases with a large number of patients increasingly break down into a number of "smaller" diagnoses, for which targeted therapy can sometimes be used, the classical model of randomized trials is no longer sufficient. These evaluations cannot capture the subgroups of patients in whom treatment works best, as well as those in whom it may even be harmful. With personalized medicine, new types of studies are beginning to appear, but data from real practice also play a significant role - but we will still have to learn to make full use of them.
