Citation
Description The presented topic deals with the benefactors and euergets who contributed to the construction of structures for rest. The topic dated to the period of Hellenism and early Principate is geographically placed in the eastern Mediterranean region, and in the case of the Apennine Peninsula will be the attention focused on the city of Pompeii. Three groups – high-ranking public persons and wealthy families, urban poleis and helenistic kings and Roman emperors – contributed to the construction of these structures, known as scholae and exedrae. Attention will be focused on differences in these structures between the eastern Mediterranean and the Apennine Peninsula in the context of topographical location, decorative motifs, but also the purpose of construction and promotion. The theme will thus follow up on previous posts presented in the last two years at the Classic Interviews.
