Citation
Description The publication is a presentation of the research activities of the project and by nature fulfills the function of a research report on the thematic perspectives and results of the project. The book is based on the experience of a team of authors with the digitization of sound heritage. It captures the authors' efforts to examine and document the state of sound recordings in memory institutions and in private ownership, to formulate strategies for their systematic preservation, including methodologies for description, preservation of sources and digitization, to save the most endangered sound sources, and to make sound cultural heritage accessible to the scientific and general public for further use. The content of the book is organized according to the New Phonograph Project workflow model, describing the journey of sound cultural artifacts to digital collections of memory institutions in several stages: registration, preservation, taking photographs, cataloging, digitizing, data managing, accessing, developing, educating. The authors of each chapter address the areas where they encounter the most problems in practice and which they consider central to the goals of identifying existing sound media and preserving those most at risk. Individual chapters of the book are devoted to: exploration and identification of sound recordings, preservation and management of sound data, digital formats for archiving sound recordings, forms of access to sound heritage, the use of digital sound recordings in scholarly work, and technical perspectives on the digitization of sound heritage.
