Description Many universities reward their students for good achievement. Some unviersities do so out of the principle of rewarding students for their merit, some do so with an explicit intention of improving students’ motivation and ultimately students’ achievement. However, the question of whether financial incentives lead to higher achievement or the question what context financial incentives work in remain largely unanswered. This study aims to address the problematics of financial incentives influencing academic achievement in higher education employing systematic review of experimental studies.
