Description The burial rites of the Early Slavs represent one of the most important archaeological issues. Due to the absence of written documents of Slavic provenance, we are left with very little information on the basis of which we would be able to better describe the Slavic culture and reconstruct the life of the Slavs between the 5th and 9th centuries in the territory where Great Moravia gradually emerged and disappeared. In this case, contemporary researchers are trying to find out more on the basis of the surviving material culture, of which fortunately quite a lot has survived thanks to burials. This paper describes which types of burial rites were typical in the period under study between the 6th and 8th centuries in the territory of future Great Moravia and which major factors influenced their development. On the basis of literature review, the paper defines what we are able to find out about the burial practices of the Early Slavs by interpreting the grave finds and defines the current limits of our knowledge.
