Description Rare diseases are diseases that affect less than 1 in 2,000 people. Around 6,000 of them have been named, and thanks to improving diagnostics, this number is constantly growing. In total, rare diseases affect a higher number of patients than people with cancer and AIDS combined. In the Czech Republic, there are half a million, and worldwide, 300 million patients. Many more are still waiting for their diagnosis. Rare diseases are mainly hereditary and affect the entire organism. They have a significant impact on the patient's quality of life or directly threaten their life. The seminar for patients with rare diseases, their families and caregivers took place on campus and focused on the issues of care, new research, issues of access to treatment and instigating change.
