Description In November 2023, a geophysical survey was conducted at the site of a deserted medieval church located in the northernmost part of the cadastral area of the village of Šanov (Šanov nad Jevišovkou cadastral area, Znojmo District). The survey was prompted by newly discovered crop marks observed on Google Maps satellite images from 2021 (Fig. 84). The site has been known since 1991 when it was identified by an aerial survey conducted by Miroslav Bálek. Collections of artefacts obtained through fieldwalking surveys revealed intensive settlement activities from prehistory through the high medieval period. Based on these findings, it can be inferred that a medieval village existed in the area from the 13th to the 15th century. The exploratory geophysical survey confirmed the remains of a single-nave church with a chancel and possibly a polygonal closure (Fig. 84). The identified masonry is situated approximately 0.6 to 0.7 m below the current ground level. Areas with increased signal reflectivity indicate remnants of flooring, layers of destroyed masonry or remnants of roof coverings. Based on archaeological and historical sources, the site can be identified as the deserted medieval village of Vrahovice, the predecessor of the present-day village of Pravice. The parish church in Pravice is documented as early as 1222, with its last mention in 1539, when it was described as dilapidated.
