Description | In this work the key role of physical activity in the life of cancer patients before, during and after treatment is presented. The aim is to present a comprehensive view of the importance of exercise in different phases of cancer treatment. Based on the available evidence, effective physical activity programmes will be presented, including what type of physical activity to choose, at what intensity and how often physical activity should be performed. The first phase is the pre-treatment period, the so-called prehabilitation period, when appropriately selected physical activity can be used to better prepare patients for the upcoming treatment and to strengthen their overall fitness. The next important phase is the treatment itself, where regular physical activity can significantly improve the management of side effects of treatment such as fatigue, depression, neuropathy or loss of muscle and bone mass. Last but not least, the role of physical activity after cancer treatment is crucial, as movement can positively contribute to alleviating long-term side effects, improving quality of life and facilitating return to normal life, including work and sports activities. The aim of this paper is to provide practical information and motivation to incorporate appropriate physical activity into patients' lives at each stage of cancer treatment.
