Description | Archaeology on traffic structures focuses mainly on large contiguous areas, which are literally loaded with finds in old settlement areas. Usually floodplains of watercourses are omitted, which has multiple causes. In marginal higher-lying areas, the situation is the opposite, and excavation of alluvia, whose power here tends to be smaller, brings interesting results. The first example is the discovery of a medieval tar and textile workplace in the floodplain of a creek in Lukavec, and the second one is the medieval ore and smelting works on the Silver Creek near Havlíčkův Brod. Both rescue investigations were supported by a wide range of advanced analyses generating robust proxy data, which allows a solid interpretation in historical, technological and environmental contexts. |
