Description | The behavior of various phosphoryl halides and halogenophosphates toward Lewis acids and bases has been compared. While with strong Lewis acids only simple donor-acceptor complexes, e.g. F3PO.Sb2F10, Cl3PO.SbCl5 or (PO2F2.2AsF5)-, are formed, reactions with Lewis bases proceed in rather complicated way and their results are often conspicuously different. Thus, pyridine reacts with phosphoryl fluoride to a dimeric adduct, [(py)POF3]2, with hexacoordinated phosphorus atoms. However, pyridine does not react with POCl3, while with POBr3 it surprisingly gives [(py)2PO2]Br3, a salt of donor-stabilized form of the so far unknown cation [PO2]+. |
