| Description | In approximation by smoothing splines it is necessary to choose the value of the smoothing parameter according to some criteria. By these criteria are meant functions of the smoothing parameter, which indicate the quality of the approximation in some fashion. Argument of the minimum (or maximum, it depends on the kind of the criteria) of such a function can be reasonable value for the smoothing parameter. |
