Description The reaction of (py)PF5 with diphosphoryl tetrafluoride results in the elimination of POF3 and formation of cis- and trans-(py)PF4OPOF2 as the main products. The cis- isomer could be isolated and its molecular structure was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both adducts can be considered to be donor-stabilized difluorophosphatotetrafluorophosphorane that does not exist as a "free" noncoordinated species. Similar reaction with (Me3N)PF5 produces only trans-isomer, most likely due to steric more demanding trimethylamine molecule.
