Description Upon analysis of changes in attitude towards nature and the living environment, the author conceives new approaches in environmental education. She analyses conceptual polarity and complementarity in environmental education and dwells upon its didactical dimension. Based on the research, modern concept of environmental education creates a theoretical and methodological framework of ideas and suggestions for teacher training in this area. The author defines and justifies key teacher competencies in the implementation of environmental education. The competencies are examined within the context of the teacher training process. This part of the dissertation results in the defining standards for pre-graduate teacher training for primary school, in which the said competencies play an important role.
