Description In laser-based analytical techniques, the drilling action of the laser lends itself to depth profiling of layered structures. The changes observed in the atomic emission from the plasma using LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectrometry) technique can be used to extract useful depth related information. In order to study dependence of zinc and iron emission in depth profiling analysis the two types of lasers were used; i) short pulsed laser system - Nd:YAG laser (Quantel Brilliant) operated at fundamental wavelength (1064 nm), pulse duration of 4.4 ns and ii) the ultra-short laser system (Hurricane) operated at 780 nm, pulse duration of 180 fs.
