Description | The motto of the meeting was presence of the Variscan elements also in younger terranes such as Western Carpathians - which means that understanding of the Variscan orogeny is not restricted by state borders.During two days were presented talks in five sessions, focused at processes registered by the Variscan magmatic and metamorphic rocks, geochronology and accessory minerals and pre-Cretaceous tectonics. The sessions were followed by a day field trip along a cross-section through the Variscan nappe pile at the eastern margin of the Bohemian Massif. The second half-day field trip focused at the Carboniferous conglomerates.Field guide edited by J.Kotková is available. Papers from the conference were published under the title Magmatic and metamorphic evolution of the Variscan orogenic crust (J.Kotková, I.Petrík and U.Schaltegger as editors), Lithos, vol. 82, 1-2. Details on the conference are given in a paper of J.Kotková in Episodes (2004). |
