Description Recent field research at the Za Hájovnou (Javoříčko Karst) site provided relatively diversified herpetological assemblage including Bufo viridis, Lacerta cf. agilis, Anguis fragilis, Coronella austraca, Elaphe longissima, cf. Natrix sp., and Vipera berus. Herpetological species have been discovered in three layers in all: 1. relic of the layer 11-12/3 (age: Holsteinian complex): Anguis fragilis, Elaphe longissima, cf. Natrix sp.; 2. Birthday tunnel, area A, layer 2B (age: ? Holsteinian complex): Vipera berus; 3. Manhole I, layer 7 (surroundings) (indistinct age: termination of the warm stage, beginning of the cold stage): Bufo viridis, Lacerta cf. agilis, Coronella austriaca, and Vipera berus. Species occuring within the layer 7 represent generally less temperature-sensitive members which are related to humid biotopes including stagnant water reservoirs. Herpetological assemblage of the layer 7 (Manhole I) most probably gives the evidence of the termination of the warm stage just before the beginning of the cold stage. As regards the layer 2B within the area A, Birthday tunnel, the herpetological assemblage (Vipera berus) does not coincide with the climatic optimum. The relic of the layer 11-12/3 contains the assemblage of the warm period of the holsteinian complex including Elaphe longissima but we cannot confirm the climatic optimum because of the scarcity of the material.
