Description A sensitive method for the determination of fibrinogen adsorption is electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The impedance of the pyrolytic carbon electrode double layer in the solutions of hexacyanoferrate K4 [Fe (CN) 6] in phosphate buffer at potential + 0.22V, where faradayic current is observed, was determined. In phosphate buffer without hexacyanoferrate there is no faradayic current and only capacitance response is observed which can be described by a constant phase element. From the Nyquist plot (dependence of the imaginary part of complex impedance on the real part) the charge-transfer resitstance can be determined. In the solution of hexacyanoferrate the observed response can be described by a Randles circuit with a small charge transfer resistance (small radius of the semicircle observed at high frequencies). With increasing concentration of fibrinogen the radius of the semicircle increases showing the increasing value of the charge transfer resistance due to the adsorption of fibrinogen.
