Description Nowadays, contextual cartographic visualization is becoming one of the most interesting issues in dynamic geovisualization. It is because of the fact, that contextual cartographic visualization is able to hightlight relevant spatial information and to suppress the irrelevant. This ability is crucial for decision making processes, i.e. risk management. The paper begins with explanation of contextual cartographic visualization process. Then, it describes OGC specifications Web Map Service (WMS) and Styled Layer Descriptor (SLD) including their significance for open contextual cartographic visualization. Finally, the paper presents the solution of contextual cartographic visualization, that is highly open, interoperable and platform independent.
