Description Synthetic abilities of Schisandra chinensis have been studied in vitro on the callus cultures derived from stems and fruits. The aim of this study was to influence dibenzo[a,c]cyclooctadiene lignans production by using effects of different elicitors combined with or without use of adsorbent polymeric resin Amberlite XAD 7. Elicitation with Amberlite resulted in the increase of lignan content in all variants of S. chinensis calli cultures. Amberlite in concentration 5 g.L-1 operated as a very efficient elicitor of lignans (in calli of stem there was 1.2 times higher content compared to the control; in the case of calli of fruits there was 33.6 times higher content recorded). Lignan production depended on origin of the callus line. The calli derived from stem had higher content of lignans in comparison with the calli from fruit (0.0015 % in stem calli and 0.0006 % in fruit calli). Elicitors and Amberlit on tissue cultures showed higher impact on lignan production on the lines derived from stems compared to lines derived from fruits. The highest increase of lignan contents in stem calli cultures was achieved by elicitation using combination of Amberlite in concentration 5 g.L-1 with methyljasmonate in concentration 0.002g.L-1 (increase of total lignans content 37.9 times compared to the control) and methyljasmonate in concetration 0.01 g.L-1 (increase 21 times). Addition of polyethyleneglycol (PEG) (MW 8 000 g.mol-1) in concentration 60 g.L-1 increased lignans content 3.3 times compared to the control. The other variations of elicitors also induced significant increase of lignan content in the case of Amberlite addition: Saccharomyces cerevisiae in form of extract of Pangamin (Spofa) in concentration 5 g .L-1 2.8 times and cell walls of Agrobacterium tumefaciens 1.5.10-3 EI.mL-1 3.9 times. We used also content of nitrogen salts KNO3, (NH4)2SO4 in Gamborg B5 medium reduced to 10 %. The lack of nitrogen in combination with Amberlite increased the content of lignans 34.7 times. Elicitors and Amberlite showed synergic effect and their use at the same time appears to be an effective and efficient method of increasing the lignans production by tissue cultures of S. chinensis.
