Description | This paper aims to analyse action potentials recorded during repeated global ischemia and reperfusion in the experiment with rabbit hearts and to verify the theory of ischemic preconditioning. Ischemic preconditioning is a technique in which tissue is rendered resistant to the deleterious effects of prolonged ischemia and reperfusion by prior exposure to brief, repeated periods of vascular occlusion. The hypothesis of ischemic preconditioning was first described by Charles Murray et al., 1986, where it was demonstrated a 75 % reduction in the infarct size caused by a 40 min. coronary artery occlusion, when the occlusion was preceded by episodes of ischemia and of reperfusion. |
