Cognitive functions were assessed by our comprehensive neuropsychological test battery. Results: Presence of existence cognitive deficit in schizophrenia and depression, but its different profile. Comparison of these two disorders: Schizophrenia: memory: lower level of all types of memory executive functions: average attention: better level of attention but below average verbal fluency: lower level Depression: memory: better perfomance but below average executive functions: inferior level attention: below average verbal fluency: better level. We believe, that monitoring of the level of cognitive functions in these two significant neuropsychiatric diseases is very important, because exactly congnitive deficit appears to be a basic factor that is limiting not only social position of people suffering from these diseases but also their working and personal functions and in very significant way also disrupts quality of their everyday life.
