Description | Paper deals with an attempt to conceptualize pathway to first attempts of mass democracy in Central Europe and their failure in interwar and postwar periods. Author puts emphasis on early stages of democratization in Central Europe, main attention is paid to Czechs, Austrians, and Magyars. Stein Rokkans concepts of critical junctures and thresholds of democratization are employed and modified. Article tries to conceptualize notion of so-called critical events in modern and contemporary Central European history and to trace back their consequences for political development and processes of democratization which are seen as attempts for transcending of particular thresholds of democratization. |
