Description | If we mention the term of development zones, a vast majority of people will imagine industrial zones which are mostly built on greenfield sites with prevalent manufacturing industry, warehouses and logistics. Various types of technological or science-technical parks occupied by companies from high-tech branches of the light industry with the innovation potential and focused on science and research, administration, etc. are also ranked among development zones; a revitalized brownfield can also be a development zone. Due to their qualities (labour force, erudition, infrastructure, market, etc.) the city agglomerations are environments in which conditions for activities realized in development zones are created. The aim of the article is to show on the example of three city agglomerations (Brno, Ostrava and Plzeň) and on the basis of own research and hard statistical data certain characteristics of development zones related mainly to their competitive positions (social-economic, or regional-spatial). |
