• Description: Radicular pain (RP) is a common and debilitating clinical pain condition, the prevalence of which is estimated between 1% and 10%. The pathogenesis of RP was traditionally attributed to spinal root (SR) compression by a herniated disc. Although the mechanical concept is widely accepted, SR compression in itself does not seem to explain radiculopathy with pain. Thus, knowledge of the pathogenesis is precondition for successful treatment of RP.
