Description | Study of hybridization and properties of DNA often uses labeling of bases or short nucleotide sequences with fluorescent, radioactive and electrochemical labels. OsO4 complexes with nitrogen containing ligands belong to the last group. They possess selective affinity to pyrimidine bases, especially thymine. Experimental and theoretical results suggest that bidentate N ligands do not react with OsO4 in water solution. The coordination occurs after OsO4 reduction by addition to thymine double bond but the rate of complexation with TMP differs in the dependence of N ligand. During electrophoretical separation we moreover observed 2 products which possibly correspond to two different diastereoisomers |
