Description Biologically active compounds include an important class of a large number of polar and nonpolar compounds, which influence significantly organisms. MALDI mass spectrometry is a commonly used technique for analysis of polar biopolymers with detection limits going down to amol levels. Ionization of nonpolar compounds, such as sterols in positive mode was performed by silver ion cationization using silver nanoparticles as the MALDI matrix.
