Description ESBL and AmpC beta-lactamases are produced by a range of Gram-negative bacteria. Increasing numbers of such producers are a huge problem now. It is necessary to correctly identify them, detect their metabolic properties and sensitivity to antibiotics. Uropathogenic isolates (106 strains) of E. coli were used. The production of ESBL was tested by a double disc synergy test (DDST) and CLSI. DDST test was also used for the detection of inducible enzymes type AmpC. Inhibition with oxacillin was used as a confirmation method for AmpC producers. All these strains were tested by the disc diffuse method on MH agar. The antimicrobial susceptibility was tested for amikacin, imipenem, meropenem, colisitin, piperacillin/tazobactam, cefepime, cefoperazone/sulbactam and tigecycline. There was a majority (83%) of ESBL producers. The highest sensitivity was to tigecycline (100%), colistin (99,17%) and imipenem and meropenem (both 99,1%). The biochemical profile was determined by ENTEROtest16 for 60 isolates. There is the difference in metabolising lysine, ornithine and inositol especially.
